Plenty of bands are singing about the idea of making change, as if it were some far-off dream.

KILL, THE ICON! have flipped the script.

After having made direct change through protests, bandleader Nishant Joshi was still not satisfied. He recruited two of his long-time musical collaborators and formed KILL, THE ICON! in the summer of 2020 as a musical extension to protest movements.

The band made their live debut in 2021 after an invitation from Fierce Panda off the back of just a single demo track.

A punk trio playing with a combination of bass, synth and drums, KILL, THE ICON! veer between genres, with influences such as The Stooges, LCD Soundsystem, Dead Kennedys and Death From Above 1979!

The band's experiences are reflected in their music: there is tense, disdainful sprechgesang, where Joshi sarcastically rails against society’s great ills.

This is accompanied by industrial bass riffs, blistering synth, and danceable drum beats - all serving to create a deliberate tension.

This is a righteous fury that you can dance to.

Debut single Buddhist Monk was self-released in late 2021 to widespread acclaim from reviewers. Second single Bourdain is a noir, psych-punk polemic released in early 2022 and has gained airplay from the likes of John Kennedy (Radio X), who noted its "dizzying twists and turns."

A cover of Bambara's "All The Ugly Things" (sneak-released through BandCamp) underlined the band's punk credentials while showcasing their ability to deconstruct and rebuild a genre favourite.

Each release has received regular airplay across both Amazing Radio and Amazing Radio USA.

KILL, THE ICON! spent most of 2022 in the recording studio, eschewing further releases in favour of building the lion's share of an album that feels increasingly relevant in a modern Britain that has alienated its workers and its youth.

The songs have been road-tested extensively with plenty of local shows, and with heaving crowds at Brixton's Windmill, Luton's Hat Factory, London's Shacklewell Arms, Bedford Esquires and Brighton's Pipeline. The band made their festival debut in September 2022 with a raucous set at London's Dialled In.

KILL, THE ICON!

KILL, THE ICON! are a protest punk duo based in London. Furious at the actions of the government, and despondent about the inertia in British society, "KILL, THE ICON!" make fast-paced music that promises to make a dent in the kleptocracy.
